BRISTOL TEMPLE QUARTER
A brand film for Bristol's most ambitious regeneration
Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone is one of the UK’s most significant urban regeneration programmes. It’s 135-hectares of transformation around Bristol Temple Meads station. Led by a public sector partnership between Bristol City Council, Homes England, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and Network Rail, the project places community and inclusivity at the centre of Bristol’s growth.
The Problem
How do you make a compelling film about a place that doesn’t exist yet? With construction still underway and much of the area undeveloped, Bristol Temple Quarter needed a brand film. It had to convey ambition and warmth without leaning on architectural renders or progress reports.
The Approach
The answer was already in the neighbourhood. Skylark went into local schools and interviewed children, asking them to imagine what their ideal city would look, feel and sound like. In doing so, their answers became the creative spine of the film. Unscripted, specific, and far more compelling than anything a script could have generated.
Real photography of the existing site then became the canvas. This meant Skylark’s animators worked directly over location photography of the actual spaces. This brought the children’s visions to life in the real place, not in a CGI version. The technique kept the film grounded and honest while opening the space up to an imagined future.
Deliverables included a hero brand film combining live-action interviews, location photography and mixed-media animation.
The Result
The film gave Bristol Temple Quarter a human-led communications asset at a critical moment in the programme.
