UWE BRISTOL
Ten schools, promoted as one unmistakable University
The University of the West of England needed to bring all ten of its schools to life on film. We’d already worked with them for years, across out-of-home, digital and paid social. We knew their brand, and they trusted us to deliver. As a result, we created a collaborative team including Skylark crew and UWE in-house employees to work together over the course of this multi-year project. Together we made a university video production spanning ten films, shot on location and on campus. Each film promotes a single school. But together, they make one big University feel personal.
The Problem
Ten schools. Each one has its own identity, audience and story. Yet they all belong to one university that has to feel coherent.
UWE Bristol wanted a film for every school. Each film had to stand on its own and promote its school. At the same time, all ten needed to add up to a single, recognisable UWE.
That is a lot to hold together. We coordinated marketing leads across every school, the Dean, and students past and present. We filmed across many locations, over years. And through all of it, the films could never feel like ten disconnected corporate videos.
The Work
Our university video production delivered ten films – one for every UWE Bristol school. First, we filmed inside real workplaces, the places graduates actually end up. Then we filmed within each school itself. Along the way, we brought in voices from right across the University. That meant marketers from all ten schools, the Dean, and both current students and alumni.
The Approach
An extended team, not a supplier. We worked hand-in-glove with Ollie, UWE’s film production manager, tightly knit, shared shorthand, one crew that already understood the brand. After years of making work together, there’s no long ramp-up and nothing lost in translation: we know UWE, and UWE trusts us to get on and make it.
Built for the long haul. A project this size runs over a long timeline, and that’s a strength, not a problem. It let us film around academic calendars, real workplace access and people’s availability; hold a consistent look and feel across all ten films; and shape the University’s story the way only a long-term partner can.
One visual language, ten stories. Same team, same craft bar on every schools, so ten films feel like one University, not ten separate briefs.
The best work comes from relationships that build over time. Because we know each other and how to work best together with UWE, we spend less time in briefings and more time making. We can be honest, move quickly, and hold a consistent standard across a huge project. Continuity is the whole point. Ten schools, filmed over years, that still feel unmistakably like one place.
