2026 Impact Report

Skylark Media, is a B Corp certified Bristol-based production agency

Introduction by founder and CEO, Jo Haywood:

From my roots in producing BBC science documentaries to Skylark’s Net Zero mission, my ‘why’ has always been to use video as a force for good. So I’m delighted that B Corp certification gives us a way to prove that our business is run for the good of people and planet. In April 2025, Skylark Media successfully re-certified as a B Corp. A moment of immense pride, as we improved our impact score from 94 to 98.8.

Now we’re adopting the new B Labs standards to meet minimum performance requirements across seven core impact topics. We’re embracing the challenge – we didn’t become a B Corp because it was easy; we did it because it’s the right way to run a business.

  • Skylark’s mission is to use video as a force for good whilst translating complexity into stories that move audiences. We do this for brands at the forefront of innovation and the transition to a fairer economy.
  • How we work: We are female-owned and minority-led. In a world of rapid change we are using human judgement where it matters, AI where it accelerates, and craft on everything that goes out the door.
  • Governance & Ethics: We are committed to creative excellence but not at any cost. To ensure our work drives positive change for people and planet, we evaluate all potential partnerships for positive impact, transparency and shared values. We choose partners who, like us, believe business must be a force for good.

People

  • At Skylark, we are committed to fair work and measured with the JEDI framework. We’ve completed a living wage audit to ensure pay parity for staff and freelancers. And to avoid burnout, we track working hours alongside dedicated training hours to support workplace wellbeing.
  • Through our inclusive casting policy, we’re dismantling industry biases which means that our on-screen talent reflect the diverse world we live in.

Planet (Climate Action & Stewardship)

  • We put the planet as a key stakeholder of the company. We track our travel and digital storage and where possible we use green power, select low carbon travel options and have a zero-waste policy for catering and props. We care about digital stewardship, and our ‘Delete for Good’ initiative, minimal website design and green-hosting have slashed server emissions. We’re also signatories of the SME climate pledge

Our Supply Chain

  • Part of certifying as a B Corp means that we check our supply chain to make sure our partners align with our ethics. So we audit our primary vendors to guarantee transparency. And under our tech procurement policy we prioritise longevity, with a majority of equipment being refurbished or retained for over 3 years. Finally, we uphold strict data ethics regarding generative AI. We pledge to protect human craft and the creative rights of our contributors.

Collective Action

  • At Skylark, we believe true impact requires collective energy. We don’t work in a vacuum; we lead within the B Local West of England to drive regional change.
  • Our commitment is tangible: this year we’ve provided pro bono film services for local non-profits and the Spring and Summer Purposefest events. For the second year running, I enjoyed leading a nature walk through the woods at Belmont Estate. We mentor Boomsatsuma students and volunteer for tree planting with Avon Needs Trees, to invest in the furture of our community. And we actively champion Policy Advocacy, including the Better Business Act, ensuring that ethical business isn’t just a choice – it’s the law.

Work in Progress

  • Authenticity requires honesty: while we’ve progressed, there are some areas where we’ve done less well. We need to reduce our travel emissions when filming in London studios, and improve representation across directors and crew. This is where we will focus for our 2030 target. We aren’t perfect, but we are relentless. At Skylark Media, we don’t just film a better world; we’re actively building it.
