UWE SOUND SHOWER
An immersive first for UWE Bristol's OOH strategy
UWE Bristol needed to reach prospective students in a new way. Rather than advertising in traditional education channels, the brief was to take campus life directly to the people of Bristol with an immersive OOH Sound Shower campaign.
The Problem
The format made UWE Bristol’s ambition concrete. A Sound Shower unit creates an immersive audio-visual experience within a defined zone in a public space. For this to work, the film had to feel like you were inside it, not watching it. And it had to do that across two of Bristol’s busiest retail environments: Cabot Circus and Cribbs Causeway.
Our approach to immersive OOH video production
It was a technical and conceptual challenge for Skylark’s fully immersive creative which was built around an Insta 360 camera.
By positioning the pole mount within the camera’s stitch line, it disappears entirely in post-production. This mimics a first-person-view drone, flying fluidly between locations and locking onto subjects for detail. It’s a technique that makes the viewer feel present, not passive.
The creative approach made room for humour and honesty, giving the campaign a unique tone in the category.
Deliverables spanned a hero TVC for broad awareness, a digital-first mockumentary skit designed for sharing, and over 1,000 stills and short-form videos deployed across paid social, digital, TV and OOH.
Filming across campus and city
Filming took place across UWE Bristol’s Frenchay campus and Bristol city centre. We filmed at the Atrium café, Centre for Sport, student union, library, and the Arnolfini with real student contributors throughout. These gave the film genuine campus texture rather than a polished promotional gloss.
The final film ran on Sound Shower units at both Cabot Circus and Cribbs Causeway. UWE Bristol’s campus experience is placed directly in front of the people of Bristol during peak retail footfall.
The Result
The Sound Shower campaign placed UWE Bristol in front of high-footfall retail audiences in Bristol. It marked a significant step forward in how the university reaches prospective students, moving it beyond traditional education advertising into genuinely immersive out-of-home.
This is a really exciting film project with Skylark Media, creating a film for a specific sound shower unit to promote the university and bring campus life to the people of Bristol, so they can get a real immersive experience of what it’s like to study here.
